Father John Reilly, S.J.

Father John Reilly, S.J. entered eternal life on October 29, 2012 at the age of 84.

A Jesuit for 66 years, Father Reilly served most of his career in Chicago, at St. Ignatius High School and Loyola University.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, November 1 at the Colombiere Center in Clarkston.  Burial will take place at Colombiere Center Cemetery.

Father Robert Reckinger

Father Reckinger was born on January 5, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1951. 

Fr. Reckinger’s assignments included serving as associate pastor at St. Jude Parish Detroit; St. Cecilia Parish, Detroit; St. John the Evangelist Parish, Detroit; St. Mark Parish, Warren; St. Michael Parish, Livonia and St. Richard Parish, Westland.

In respect to Father Reckinger’s and the family’s wishes, Father has been buried at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Southfield.  A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 17 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Parish Church, 22430 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn.

Father Reckinger was predeceased by his parents Walter and Regina and sister Margaret.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews.  Condolences may be sent to Ms. Susan Vanderwill, 511 North Military, Dearborn, MI 48124.

Deacon John Wallace passed away this past Friday. He was ordained a deacon on June 14, 1980.  He moved to the Gaylord diocese around 1982 where he has served ever since at The National Shrine of the Cross in the Woods.

Bishop Moses B Anderson SSE

Bishop Moses AndersonBorn in Selma, Alabama on September 9, 1928, Bishop Anderson attended the Edmundite College of St. Michael’s in Winooski, Vermont and St. Edmund Seminary in Burlington, Vermont. He was ordained a priest for the Society of St. Edmund on May 30, 1958 and as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Detroit by Cardinal Edmund Szoka on January 27, 1983.

Among Bishop Anderson’s duties in the Archdiocese of Detroit, he oversaw regions within the archdiocese, and was pastor of Precious Blood Parish in Detroit from 1992 until 2001. Bishop Anderson also was known for his international ministry, including a long history of involvement in Ghana in West Africa, where he visited often and was given the honor of being made a tribal chief.  Along with his ministry, he was known for his patronage of the arts, having shared an extensive collection of African and African-American art with various Catholic institutions, including Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Madonna University in Livonia, and Xavier University in New Orleans.

Bishop Anderson will lie in repose at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward Ave., Detroit, on Sunday, January 6, from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, January 7, at 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.  For more information, please visit the Archdiocese of Detroit website at www.aod.org/anderson.

Monsignor Gerald Flanigan, passed on from this life on January 22, 2013 at the age of 85.

Monsignor Flanigan was born on January 27, 1927 in Highland Park, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1951.

Monsignor Flanigan’s many assignments included serving as temporary associate pastor at St. John Parish, Ypsilanti; St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Pontiac; associate pastor at Epiphany Parish, Detroit; St. Rose Parish, Detroit; St. Pius X Parish, Southgate; St. Hugo of the Hills Parish, Bloomfield Hills and Our Lady of Loretto Parish, Redford Township. In addition, Monsignor Flanigan served as pastor of Madonna Parish, Detroit; St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, St. Clair Shores; St. Blase Parish, Sterling Heights; St. Raymond Parish, Detroit and St. Colman Parish, Farmington Hills.

Visitation will take place at St. Edith Parish Church, 15089 Newburgh Road, Livonia on Friday, January 25 from 12-9 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m.

Our brother and fellow priest, Father Michael Donovan, passed on from this life on February 6, 2013 at the age of 76.

Father Donovan was born on November 11, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1962.

Father Donovan’s many assignments included serving as associate pastor at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Lincoln Park; Newman Apostolate Parish, Ann Arbor; Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Oak Park; St. Cletus Parish, Warren; St. Paul on the Lake Parish, Grosse Pointe Farms; St. Pius X Parish, Southgate and St. Mark Parish, Warren.  In addition, Father Donovan served as administrator at St. Nicholas Parish, Capac; St. Francis of Assisi Parish, New Haven and pastor at St. Donald Parish, Roseville.  Father Donovan also served in campus ministry at Wayne State University.

Visitation will take place at St. Athanasius Parish Church, 18720 E. 13 Mile Road, Roseville on Monday, February 11 from 1-8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m.

Father Donovan will lie in repose on Tuesday, February 12 at St. Athanasius Parish Church, from 10:30 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Father Villerot was born on August 14, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 7, 1941.

Fr. Villerot's many assignments included serving as pastor at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish, Beverly Hills; St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, St. Clair Shores; St. Theresa of Avila Parish, Detroit; associate pastor at St. Henry Parish, Lincoln Park; Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Detroit; St. Aloysius Parish, Detroit; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, River Rouge; and chaplain at Henry Ford Hospital and Detroit Osteopathic Hospital. He was granted senior priest status in 1985.

Visitation will take place at A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home (248-362-2500), 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Father Villerot will lie in repose on Wednesday, February 20, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 32340 Pierce, Beverly Hills, from the Rite of Reception at 9 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

Fr Paul Conen, S.J. Death Notice

We have received notification that our brother and fellow priest, Father Paul Conlen, S.J. entered eternal life on February 19, 2013 at the age of 86.

A Jesuit for 55 years, Father Conlen spent much of his apostolic life at the University of Detroit where he served as professor of Philosophy; Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Rector; Director of Religious Activities; worked in the Romero Spiritual Exercises Center and professor of Religious Studies.

A Memorial Mass will take place at the Colombiere Center, 9075 Big Lake Road, Clarkston on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. 
Burial will take place at Colombiere Center Cemetery, Clarkston.

Our brother and fellow priest, Father Robert Morand, passed on from this life on March 17, 2013, at the age of 82.

Father Morand was born on October 26, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 1, 1957. 

Father Morand’s many assignments included serving as pastor at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Detroit; St. Theresa of Avila Parish, Detroit; associate pastor at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Detroit; St. Theresa of Avila Parish, Detroit; St. Peter Parish, Mt. Clemens; St. Brigid Parish, Detroit; St. Clement Parish, Warren; and prison chaplain at Wayne County Youth Ministry and Youth Detention Criminal Justice Ministry.

Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, 5930 Woodward Avenue in Detroit on Wednesday, March 20 from 12-8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7 p.m.

Father Morand will lie in repose on Thursday at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Detroit from 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

Father O’Leary was born on June 1, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1956.

Father O’Leary’s many assignments included serving as associate pastor at St. Lucy Parish, St. Clair Shores; St. Agatha Parish, Redford; St. Jude Parish, Detroit; and as pastor at St. Pius X Parish, Southgate; and St. Hubert Parish, Harrison Township.  Father O’Leary also served as chaplain at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mt. Clemens.

Our brother and fellow priest, Father Robert Liberty Jr., passed on from this life on April 17, 2013 at the age of 43.

Father Liberty was born on February 24, 1970 in Warren, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 7, 2003.

Father Liberty’s assignments included serving as weekend assistant at St. Lawrence Parish, Utica; associate pastor at National Shrine of the Little Flower Parish, Royal Oak; and pastor at St. Jude Parish, Detroit. Father Liberty also served as chaplain in the US Army.

Father Lulko was born on March 5, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 5, 1965. 

Father Lulko’s many assignments included serving as associate pastor at St. Florian Parish, Hamtramck; Transfiguration Parish, Detroit and SS. Peter and Paul Parish, Detroit. In addition, Father Lulko served as pastor at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, Detroit and Holy Spirit Parish, Highland.

Visitation will take place at Holy Spirit Parish Church, 3700 Harvey Lake Road, Highland on Wednesday, May 29 from 1-8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, May 30 from 1-8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Father Lulko will lie in repose on Friday, May 31 at Holy Spirit Parish Church, from 9 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Highland Cemetery, Highland Township (located just north of M-59 and Milford Road intersection).

Father Kuntz was born on May 1, 1914 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 7, 1941. 

Father Kuntz’s many assignments included serving as associate pastor at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, Hazel Park; St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Pontiac; Visitation Parish, Detroit and St. Thecla Parish, Clinton Township.  In addition, Father Kuntz served as pastor at St. Cletus Parish, Warren.

Our brother and fellow priest, Father Alexander Kuras, passed on from this life on July 1, 2013 at the age of 70.

Father Kuras was born on February 4, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 7, 1969.

Father Kuras’ assignments included serving as associate pastor at St. James Parish, Ferndale, and Holy Name Parish, Birmingham. In addition, Father Kuras served as pastor at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, Waterford, and Divine Savior Parish, Westland.

Visitation will take place at Divine Savior Parish Church, 39375 Joy Road, Westland on Sunday, July 7 from 2-8 p.m. with a Vigil at 6 p.m.

Father Kuras will lie in repose on Monday, July 8 at Divine Savior Parish Church, from 10:30 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, 18303 Allen Road, Brownstown.

Fr Tod Laverty OFM Death Notice

We have received notification that our brother and fellow priest, Father Tod Laverty, OFM, entered eternal life on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the age of 69. 

Father Laverty was born in Kensington, Ontario on February 11, 1944.  He was ordained at his home parish on Wolfe Island, Ontario on June 10, 1972.

Father Laverty served as pastor of St. Aloysius and St. Patrick Parishes in Detroit.

Father Laverty will be waked at St. Aloysius Parish Church, 1234 Washington Boulevard, Detroit on Sunday, September 29.  Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m.

Father Laverty will lie in repose on Monday, September 30 at St. Patrick Parish Church, 58 Parsons, Detroit from 9:00 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.  Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.

Our brother and fellow priest, Father Jeffrey Anifer, passed on from this life on October 1, 2013 at the age of 72.

Father Anifer was born on October 29, 1940 and was ordained a priest on May 27, 1967 in Wisconsin. He incardinated into the Archdiocese of Detroit on April 29, 1989.

Father Anifer’s many assignments included serving as associate pastor at St. Lawrence Parish, Utica and St. Joan of Arc Parish, St. Clair Shores. In addition, Father Anifer served as pastor at St. Gabriel Parish, Detroit; St. Francis Xavier Parish, Ecorse; St. Clement Parish, Warren; St. Conrad Parish, Melvindale, and St. Mary Magdalen Parish, Melvindale.

Visitation will take place at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Church, 19624 Wood, Melvindale, on Thursday, October 3 from 1-9 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.

Father Anifer will lie in repose on Friday, October 4 at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Church, from 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

Fr. Herbert Raterman S.J. Death Notice

We have received notification that our brother and fellow priest, Father Herbert Raterman, S.J. entered eternal life on October 9, 2013 at the age of 89.

A Jesuit for 71 years, Father Raterman spent much of his apostolic life as a teacher, counselor, retreat and pastoral minister in Chicago and Cincinnati.  Father Raterman was also the moderator of the radio program "Moments of Reparation" from 1979-2005. He was an active member of the Colombiere Center Jesuit Community since moving there in 2005.

A Memorial Mass will take place at the Colombiere Center, 9075 Big Lake Road, Clarkston on Tuesday, October 15 at 10:45 a.m.  Burial will take place at Colombiere Center Cemetery, Clarkston.

Father Brock was born on August 13, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1956.

Father Brock’s assignments included serving as associate pastor at Epiphany Parish, Detroit; St. Rose of Lima Parish, Detroit; St. Ambrose Parish, Grosse Pointe Park; St. Michael Parish, Livonia and as pastor at St. Anne Parish in Monroe. In addition, Father Brock also served as chaplain in the US Navy for 22 years.

Visitation will take place at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish Church, 16101 Rotunda Drive, Dearborn on Sunday, October 27 from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

Visitation will continue at St. Anne Parish Church, 2420 N. Dixie Highway, Monroe on Monday, October 28 from 2-8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.

Father Brock will lie in repose on Tuesday, October 29 at St. Anne Parish Church, from 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
